I was looking to replace my foggy window, I contacted Prestige who came the next day and gave me a free estimate at a great price. A few days later I got a call to schedule an appointment. The team of Nick and Igor came right on time as scheduled and were super friendly and did an amazing job! They did a very clean job and didn’t leave any mess behind. Very professional across the board. Thanks to Andrey and Prestige, highly recommended!

Glass Replacement

A cracked, shattered, or foggy window isn’t just an eyesore — it’s a safety risk, an energy drain, and a security vulnerability. Whether a baseball came through a pane in Merrick, a stress crack appeared in a double-pane unit in Northport, or your insulated glass has been clouded with condensation for years, the fix is the same: professional glass replacement by technicians who measure precisely, cut to specification, and install correctly the first time.

At Prestige Window Works, we provide window glass replacement throughout Long Island, NY, serving homeowners and businesses across Nassau County and Suffolk County. We handle every type of residential glass — single-pane, double-pane insulated glass units (IGUs), tempered safety glass, laminated glass, obscure privacy glass, and specialty pattern glass.

Our 10-year warranty on all IGU installations is one of the strongest guarantees in the industry. Most glass replacements are completed in a single visit.

Call 516-908-8005 for a free estimate — we can often give you a price over the phone for standard glass sizes.

Types of Glass We Replace

Not all glass is the same, and not all glass problems have the same solution. Here is exactly what we replace and why each type matters:

Double-Pane Insulated Glass Units (IGUs)

Double-pane glass is the standard in most Long Island homes built after 1985. Two panes of glass are sealed together with a spacer bar and an argon or krypton gas fill between them. When the seal fails — which it will eventually, typically after 15–25 years — moisture enters the space between the panes and creates the foggy or cloudy appearance that can’t be wiped away. The solution is IGU replacement: we remove the failed unit, measure the opening precisely, and install a new factory-sealed unit with a fresh gas fill and a 10-year warranty.

IGU failure is extremely common across Long Island, particularly in communities with older housing stock like Rockville Centre, Valley Stream, Lynbrook, and Freeport where double-pane windows from the 1990s are now reaching end-of-seal-life in significant numbers.

Single-Pane Glass

Older Long Island homes — particularly pre-1970 properties common in Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Locust Valley, and throughout Nassau County’s North Shore — often still have original single-pane wood-framed windows. We cut replacement glass to the exact dimensions of the opening, bed it in fresh glazing compound, and seal it properly. See our window reglazing service for more on the glazing process.

Tempered Safety Glass

Tempered glass is required by building code in specific locations: doors, sidelights, windows adjacent to doors, bathroom windows, and any window within 18 inches of the floor. When tempered glass breaks, it shatters into small rounded fragments rather than dangerous shards — which is why the code requires it in high-risk locations. We supply and install tempered glass to code specifications for all applications. See our side light glass replacement service for entry-area glass work.

Laminated and Safety Glass

Laminated glass has a plastic interlayer bonded between two panes. When broken, it holds together rather than shattering — making it the glass of choice for hurricane-rated windows, skylights, and security applications. We supply and install laminated glass for homeowners in coastal communities including Long Beach, Atlantic Beach, Point Lookout, and along the South Shore who want improved storm protection without replacing entire window units.

Obscure and Pattern Glass

Bathrooms, entry doors, sidelights, and privacy applications frequently use textured or frosted glass that allows light while blocking visibility. We stock and install all major pattern types including reeded, rain texture, glue chip, aquatex, and spraylite. See our full pattern glass types page for the complete range we carry.

Mirrors

We cut and install replacement mirrors for bathrooms, closets, and decorative applications throughout Long Island. Custom sizes available.

Common Reasons Long Island Homeowners Call Us for Glass Replacement

Foggy or cloudy glass between the panes — the most common call we receive. The seal on your double-pane unit has failed and moisture is trapped inside. Cleaning does nothing. The only fix is IGU replacement.

Cracked glass — stress cracks, impact cracks, and thermal cracks all spread over time. A crack that runs halfway across a pane today will reach the frame by next winter. Cold temperatures accelerate cracking significantly in Long Island winters.

Shattered or broken glass — whether from impact, storm damage, or vandalism. We treat broken glass as urgent and prioritize same-day or next-day appointments for safety and security reasons.

Scratched glass — deep scratches from improper cleaning, construction activity, or attempted break-ins. Depending on the depth and location, we assess whether polishing is viable or replacement is the better option.

Condensation on the interior glass surface — this is different from foggy glass between panes. Condensation on the room-facing surface of your glass means the glass is too cold, which means your insulation has failed. In winter, this is often a sign that your IGU’s argon fill has escaped and the unit needs replacement.

Upgrading for energy efficiency — homeowners replacing original single-pane glass with new double-pane units, or upgrading older double-pane units with Low-E coated glass that reduces heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. This is especially popular in Bellmore, Wantagh, Seaford, and Massapequa Park where homeowners are actively working to reduce energy costs.

How Our Glass Replacement Process Works

Measure and assess

We visit your property, measure the glass opening precisely (not the overall window — glass sizes differ from frame sizes by specific tolerances), and assess the frame condition. If the frame needs any attention before new glass is installed, we identify that now.

01

Order or cut glass

Standard sizes are cut from stock in our workshop for same-visit installation. Non-standard sizes, IGUs, tempered, or laminated units are ordered from our glass supplier — lead time is typically 3–7 business days for most units.

02

Remove the broken or failed unit

We remove the old glass safely, clean the frame channel or glazing rabbet, and prepare the opening. Any damaged glazing compound or failed tape seals are removed completely before new glass is set.

03

Install and seal

New glass is set into the frame, secured with glazing points or clips per the frame type, and bedded in fresh glazing compound or tape seal. Every edge is sealed against air and water infiltration.

04

Clean up and inspect

We clean the new glass, remove all debris, and do a final inspection with you present. You see the finished result before we pack up.

05

10-Year IGU Warranty

All insulated glass unit installations carry our industry-leading 10-year warranty — the strongest guarantee on any service we offer.

Glass-Only Replacement

In nearly all cases we replace just the glass, not the entire window — saving you 60–80% compared to full window replacement costs.

All Glass Types Stocked

Single-pane, double-pane IGU, tempered, laminated, obscure, and pattern glass — we carry or can source every glass type for any residential application.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

How much does glass replacement cost in Long Island?
Single-pane glass replacement typically runs $80–$200 depending on size. Double-pane IGU replacement is $180–$450 per unit for standard residential sizes. Tempered, laminated, or specialty glass costs more. We can often give you a ballpark over the phone for standard sizes, and we provide a precise written quote on-site before any work begins.
Can you replace just the glass without replacing the whole window?
Yes — in the vast majority of cases. As long as the frame is in sound condition, there is no reason to replace the entire window just because the glass has failed. Glass-only replacement costs a fraction of full window replacement and is exactly what we do.
How long does glass replacement take?
For standard single-pane replacement and most double-pane jobs where we carry stock glass, work is completed in 1–2 hours. For non-standard IGU sizes, tempered, or laminated units that need to be ordered, we do the measurement visit first, then return for installation once the glass arrives — typically 3–7 business days later.
My double-pane window is foggy inside — do I need to replace the whole window?
No. Foggy glass between the panes means the IGU seal has failed, but the frame is almost always fine. We replace the glass unit only, leaving your existing frame in place. This is sometimes called "glass-only replacement" and costs significantly less than full window replacement.
Do you replace glass in doors as well as windows?
Yes — including entry door glass panels, French door glass, sliding door glass, and sidelight panels. See our side light glass replacement service for entry area glass. For French door and sliding door glass, those window type pages cover the specifics.
What is Low-E glass and should I upgrade to it?
Low-E (low emissivity) glass has a microscopically thin metallic coating that reflects infrared heat. In summer it keeps solar heat out; in winter it keeps interior heat in. When replacing failed IGUs, we offer Low-E coated units as an upgrade over standard clear glass — particularly recommended for south and west-facing windows that receive direct afternoon sun. Homes in Merrick, Bellmore, and Wantagh on Long Island's South Shore see especially good results with Low-E upgrades due to strong afternoon sun exposure.
Is your glass replacement covered by warranty?
Yes. All IGU installations carry a 10-year warranty — the strongest warranty we offer on any service. Single-pane and specialty glass installations are covered by our standard 5-year workmanship warranty.
