This was my first time using Prestige. I noticed their truck on the road and there was enough info as to what they do printed on the truck to satisfy what was looking for. I called and they sent a very nice gentleman (owner) and we discussed my repair job and came to a reasonable price. Was told 2- 4 weeks and they were ready within that promised time. They called and we agreed to a time and day to do the job. Their men were very respectful of my house and property and did the job quickly and neatly to my 100% satisfaction. I definitely will call them again for my window and door work in the future!

We used Prestige twice in the past few month. They replaced a defective window pane and a few months later replaced an entire window unit in another room. We are very satisfied with their workmanship and would recommend using them.

rotted window repair in long island, serving suffolk and nassau county

Window and Door Repair in Hempstead, NY

Nassau County's most populous village is also its most complex window market. Hempstead packs nearly 60,000 residents into 3.7 square miles, roughly half renter-occupied, median construction year 1957, with more than a third of the building stock predating 1950. Original 1920s wood-framed windows sit on the same block as mid-century Cape Cods and 1960s apartment buildings.
That mix matters practically. Dense construction means reduced air movement between buildings, longer moisture dwell times on shaded elevations, and deferred maintenance in rental stock that compounds season after season. The window conditions we find most consistently in Hempstead are not random, they follow directly from how this village is built and managed.
Prestige Window Works serves all of Hempstead from our Manhasset office in Nassau County: homeowners, landlords, and multi-unit property owners alike. If you are looking for window repair in Hempstead, NY or window contractors near me in Nassau County, call 516-908-8005 for a free on-site estimate and written quote.

Window and Door Services We Provide in Hempstead, NY

Hempstead's combination of age, density, and deferred maintenance in rental stock produces a consistent set of conditions, the same failures appearing on block after block, in building after building, decade after decade.

We work across all housing types and construction eras in the village.

Wood Window and Door Repair

Hempstead's pre-war residential streets still contain original wood-framed double-hung and casement windows built in the 1920s and 1930s. Sash restoration, balance replacement, and frame repair, no unnecessary replacement recommended when original material is structurally sound.

Historic Window and Door Restoration

For the village's oldest properties, some dating to before the First World War, we bring preservation-standard technique. Sash cord and pulley service, original glass retention, and period hardware matching. Hempstead is Nassau County's oldest continuously settled community. Some of its housing deserves treatment to match.

Rotten Window Repair

Deferred maintenance in Hempstead's dense rental stock means sill rot is one of the most consistent failure patterns we find here. We do not apply epoxy over rot, we remove everything compromised, treat with borate fungicide, and rebuild the section correctly. 5-year warranty on all rot repair in Hempstead.

Glass Replacement

From single-pane impact breaks in pre-war wood frames to failed IGU seals in mid-century renovation windows — we replace glass units across all types. 10-year warranty on every IGU installation.

Window Mechanism Repair

Sash balances, casement operators, sash cords, and sliding door rollers. The hardware that fails when windows are used daily in a dense residential environment and maintenance visits are infrequent.

Window Reglazing

Cracked, missing, or powdery glazing compound is more prevalent in Hempstead than in most Nassau communities, a direct consequence of deferred maintenance in rental stock and the age of the pre-war housing. We remove all deteriorated compound, prime the rebate, and apply new material correctly.

Door Adjustment

Doors that won't latch, drag against the frame, or won't seal at the threshold, this is common in mid-century housing where seasonal movement and decades of use have shifted frame alignment. Most cases are resolved without any replacement.

Window Recaulking

Full frame perimeter resealing for all window types. In Hempstead's denser building environment, failed perimeter caulk combined with deferred glazing maintenance creates multiple simultaneous infiltration paths that compound each other.

Window Adjustment

Swollen, stuck, or misaligned windows, particularly in the wood-framed housing that expands noticeably through Long Island's humid summers and requires seasonal attention to keep operating correctly.
Storm Door Installation
Installing a storm door in Hempstead, NY is one of the most cost-effective thermal improvements available on the village's older housing stock, particularly on the pre-war homes whose original entry doors were not engineered to modern weather seal standards.

Why Hempstead's Housing Stock Creates Specific Window Needs

Start with the numbers. Twenty-three percent of Hempstead's homes were built before 1940. Another fifteen percent went up between 1940 and 1949. That means nearly four in ten buildings in this village were constructed before the modern vinyl and aluminium window era even existed, they were built with wood sash, weight-and-pulley systems, oil-glazed single-pane glass, and frame jointery that has been through 75-plus years of Long Island freeze-thaw cycling.

Then there is the density. Hempstead is not a leafy suburb of detached houses on large lots. It is an urban village, tightly gridded, where buildings sit close together and shared walls are common. That physical proximity affects ventilation patterns around individual properties. Air does not move as freely between buildings as it does on a large-lot property, moisture from rain and condensation lingers longer on ground-level and partially-shaded surfaces, and the combination of older construction and constrained ventilation makes paint film deterioration and sill rot more common per block than in less densely built parts of Nassau County.

Finally: tenure. More than half of Hempstead's occupied housing is renter-occupied, a fundamentally different maintenance culture than owner-occupied suburban communities. Window maintenance in rental stock gets deferred. Glazing compound that would have been reapplied in a homeowner's property five years ago is still crumbling in a rental unit. Sash cords that would have been replaced when they weakened are still intact but fraying. A significant proportion of the repair calls we receive from Hempstead are not routine maintenance, they are the result of years of deferrals finally reaching a point of functional failure.

Window Brands in Hempstead Properties

The brand landscape in Hempstead reflects its construction eras. Andersen 400 Series and casement windows appear frequently in the renovation work done on the village's single-family housing stock through the 1980s and 1990s. Pella windows are found in higher-investment renovation properties. For the pre-war wood sash that remains in the village's oldest homes, typically unbranded, built to the era's standards rather than any manufacturer's specification, the work is technique-driven rather than brand-driven: correct compound, correct priming, correct hardware matching.

Hempstead's multi-unit housing tends toward Milgard and other vinyl double-hung systems installed during capital improvement cycles in the 1990s and 2000s. These windows are now 25–35 years old and their mechanism components (sash balances, tilt-latches, and meeting rail hardware) are entering their service cycle across multiple units simultaneously.

Serving Hempstead and Surrounding Central Nassau Communities

We cover all of Hempstead village, meaning north side residential streets, the Hofstra University corridor, the Hempstead LIRR station area, and all neighbourhoods throughout the 3.7 square miles of the incorporated village. Property owners with multi-unit buildings, individual homeowners, and landlords managing rental stock are all welcome to call.

Nearby communities we also serve: Uniondale, Roosevelt, Baldwin, Garden City, and Rockville Centre.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

Who does window repair in Hempstead, NY?
Prestige Window Works serves all of Hempstead village from our Manhasset office in Nassau County: single-family homes, multi-unit buildings, and rental properties throughout the village. Call 516-908-8005 for a free estimate.
My Hempstead rental property has windows that haven't been repaired in years. Where do we start?
With an honest assessment. We inspect every window in the property, distinguish between what is functionally failing now and what is approaching the threshold, and give you an itemised written quote that lets you prioritise. Most deferred-maintenance properties have a mix of urgent repairs and maintenance items, we tell you clearly which is which.
Can a rotten window sill be repaired without replacing the whole window?
In the vast majority of cases yes, including in Hempstead's older rental stock where rot has often been deferred for several seasons. Complete rot removal, borate treatment, and structural epoxy rebuild restores the sill section correctly without touching the glass or the rest of the frame. 5-year workmanship warranty on all rot repair.
Why do so many windows in Hempstead have broken sash balances?
Age and use volume. Hempstead's pre-war and mid-century housing has original or early-replacement window balance systems that have been operating daily for 30 to 80-plus years, far beyond what any mechanical component is designed to sustain without service. In rental properties where maintenance is deferred, multiple units in the same building will often have failed balances simultaneously because the windows were all installed at the same time and are failing on the same cycle.
Do you work on multi-unit rental properties in Hempstead, not just single-family homes?
Yes, and we do it regularly. We quote by unit, schedule to minimise tenant disruption, and provide documentation in a format useful for property maintenance records. Call 516-908-8005 to discuss the specifics of your building.
How is window repair in Hempstead village different from other Nassau towns?
Three things make it distinct: the age of the pre-war housing stock, the density of the built environment, and the proportion of renter-occupied units. Those three factors together produce a maintenance picture, more deferred rot, more failed glazing compound, more broken mechanisms, that requires honest diagnosis and correct repair technique rather than a one-size approach. It is the kind of work we do well.
