This was my first time using Prestige. I noticed their truck on the road and there was enough info as to what they do printed on the truck to satisfy what was looking for. I called and they sent a very nice gentleman (owner) and we discussed my repair job and came to a reasonable price. Was told 2- 4 weeks and they were ready within that promised time. They called and we agreed to a time and day to do the job. Their men were very respectful of my house and property and did the job quickly and neatly to my 100% satisfaction. I definitely will call them again for my window and door work in the future!

We used Prestige twice in the past few month. They replaced a defective window pane and a few months later replaced an entire window unit in another room. We are very satisfied with their workmanship and would recommend using them.

Storm Door Installation in Nassau and Suffolk County

Weather Shield Window And Door Repair

Weather Shield windows and doors are found in many Long Island homes, especially in properties that were upgraded with durable wood, clad, or energy-efficient window systems. Over time, even well-built Weather Shield units can develop common repair issues such as foggy IGUs, worn casement operators, failed balance systems, loose locks, damaged weatherstripping, and hard-to-operate sash after 20–30 years of use.
Effective Weather Shield window repair requires brand-specific knowledge, not generic parts. These systems use specific operators, balances, locks, weatherstrip profiles, and insulated glass specifications, so an incorrect replacement part can cause poor fit, weak sealing, or repeat failure. Prestige Window Works uses original-specification and Weather Shield-compatible components to restore proper function, alignment, and energy performance.
Prestige Window Works provides Weather Shield window and door repair across Nassau County and Suffolk County. We stock many commonly needed Weather Shield parts, including operators, balances, locks, hardware, and glass-related components, which allows many repairs to be completed the same day when the correct part is available. Call 516-908-8005 for a free estimate.

Signs Your Weather Shield Windows Need Expert Attention

Weather Shield windows and doors, like any high-quality product, exhibit specific symptoms when they require professional maintenance or repair. Recognizing these signs early can prevent more extensive damage. Here are the most common issues homeowners on Long Island report with their Weather Shield installations:

Stiff or Non-Operating Casement Cranks

If your Weather Shield casement or awning window crank spins freely but the sash doesn't move, or it grinds and struggles to open, the internal gears of the casement operator are likely stripped or worn. Weather Shield often uses heavy-duty operators specific to their window series. We stock these precise replacement parts to restore smooth operation without replacing the entire window.

Double-Hung Sashes That Won't Stay Up

For Weather Shield double-hung windows, a sash that drifts downward, requires excessive force to lift, or won't hold its position indicates worn-out balance systems. Whether they are spiral balances or block-and-tackle systems, they are calibrated to the sash's weight and height. Our technicians carry a wide range of Weather Shield-specific balances to ensure a perfect match and smooth, effortless sash movement.

Compromised Weatherstripping & Drafts

After years of compression and exposure, the weatherstripping around your Weather Shield windows and doors can degrade, leading to drafts, increased noise, and higher energy bills. Weather Shield utilizes specific pile and foam weatherseal profiles. A proper repair requires exact-match weatherstrip replacement, not a generic substitute, to maintain the window's original energy performance.

Difficulty Operating Sliding Patio Doors

Weather Shield gliding patio doors that are stiff, hard to slide, or jump off their track typically suffer from worn-out roller assemblies or track damage. The rollers on these doors are often designed to support significant weight and require specific bearings and housing. We replace faulty rollers with Weather Shield-compatible units, restoring effortless operation without disruptive track modification in most cases.

Corroded or Failing Hardware

Over time, especially in coastal areas of Long Island like the South Shore of Nassau and Suffolk County, metal hardware such as latches, locks, and handles on Weather Shield windows and doors can corrode or seize. This not only impacts aesthetics but also security and functionality. We offer exact-match hardware replacement, ensuring new components seamlessly integrate with your existing Weather Shield units and meet their original specifications.

Frame Perimeter Failure

Cracked or missing exterior caulk at the Andersen frame-to-siding junction — allowing water entry that compromises the frame perimeter and contributes to the fogged glass and mechanism failure described above. Our window recaulking service reseals the full frame perimeter with correctly specified exterior sealant appropriate to the Andersen frame material.
Fogged Weather Shield Insulated Glass Units
One of the most common issues affecting older Weather Shield windows on Long Island is a compromised insulated glass unit (IGU) seal. If you observe condensation, mineral deposits, or a persistent haze *between* the glass panes, it signifies that the hermetic seal of your IGU has failed. This typically occurs after 20-30 years of thermal expansion and contraction, allowing moisture and inert gas to escape. Crucially, in almost all cases, the surrounding Weather Shield window frame — whether wood, clad, or vinyl — remains structurally sound and robust. There's no need for a costly full window replacement. Our specialized glass replacement service focuses solely on replacing the failed IGU.

Expert Service for All Weather Shield Product Series

Weather Shield has developed several distinguished product lines over its history, each designed with specific features, materials, and hardware. Our technicians are well-versed in the unique characteristics of each series commonly found in Long Island residences, ensuring accurate diagnosis and repair.

Visions® Series

Recognized for their vinyl construction and energy efficiency, Visions Series windows are prevalent in many Long Island homes from the 1990s and 2000s. Common repairs include balance system adjustments or replacements in double-hung windows, replacement of casement operators, and IGU seal failure. We carry components specific to Visions Series hardware.

Aspire Series

These are premium vinyl-clad wood windows, offering the warmth of wood interiors with low-maintenance exteriors. Aspire Series units often require specialized hardware for their casements and awnings, as well as precise balance systems for their double-hung sashes. We stock or can quickly source the exact parts needed for these sophisticated units.

Contemporary Collection

Featuring sleek designs and narrow profiles, the Contemporary Collection emphasizes large glass areas and modern aesthetics. While durable, these windows can experience issues with their unique locking mechanisms, hinges, and larger IGUs over time. Our expertise ensures proper repair without compromising their distinctive look or performance.

Endurance® Collection & Premium Series

These lines often include higher-end wood and aluminum-clad wood products. Repairs frequently involve replacing specialized hardware, addressing wood rot in older units, or updating complex patio door roller systems. Our team is equipped to handle the intricacies of these premium Weather Shield offerings, from exact-match hardware to custom-sized glass units.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

Does Prestige Window Works repair Weather Shield windows?
Yes, absolutely. Prestige Window Works specializes in repairing Weather Shield windows and doors. We stock original-specification parts for various Weather Shield series and aim to complete most repairs in a single visit across Nassau and Suffolk County. Call 516-908-8005 for service.
My Weather Shield casement window crank turns, but nothing happens. What's wrong?
This is a classic sign of a failed casement operator. The internal gears have likely stripped. Weather Shield uses specific operator assemblies for its different product lines. We carry these exact-match replacement parts and can typically replace the faulty operator on-site, restoring full functionality to your window.
My Weather Shield double-hung sash slides down on its own. Can it be fixed?
Yes, this usually indicates worn-out balance systems (either spiral or block-and-tackle) that can no longer support the sash's weight. Weather Shield balances are specifically sized. Our technicians measure your sash and window height to install the correct replacement balance, allowing your sash to stay open at any position.
Do you use original Weather Shield parts, or generic ones?
We prioritize using original-specification or exact-match replacement parts for Weather Shield windows and doors. This includes hardware, balance systems, and weatherstripping specific to Weather Shield's product lines to ensure proper fit, function, and longevity of the repair. We stock high-volume failure components, minimizing wait times.
My Weather Shield windows have fog between the panes. Do I need new windows?
No, not necessarily. Internal fogging means the seal on your insulated glass unit (IGU) has failed. In most cases, the Weather Shield frame is still in excellent condition. We offer IGU replacement, where we install a new, sealed glass unit into your existing frame, saving you the expense and disruption of a full window replacement. This new glass comes with a 10-year warranty.
