This was my first time using Prestige. I noticed their truck on the road and there was enough info as to what they do printed on the truck to satisfy what was looking for. I called and they sent a very nice gentleman (owner) and we discussed my repair job and came to a reasonable price. Was told 2- 4 weeks and they were ready within that promised time. They called and we agreed to a time and day to do the job. Their men were very respectful of my house and property and did the job quickly and neatly to my 100% satisfaction. I definitely will call them again for my window and door work in the future!

Window Glass Replacement in Jericho, NY

The before photo makes the problem self-evident. Looking out from an upper-floor window onto a Jericho residential street, the view through the glass is obscured — internal haze, mineral streaking, condensation staining deposited between the panes over an extended period of seal failure. The Prestige Window Works van is visible parked outside, which is how this job looked from inside the room: our technician already on-site while the homeowner was still looking at glass that had been progressively degrading for months.

Foggy double-pane windows have one cause: the factory seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Moisture from the atmosphere enters the sealed cavity between the panes, deposits minerals on the interior glass faces as it evaporates and re-condenses, and the result is the haze visible in the before photo. Cleaning does nothing — the contamination is inside a sealed unit. The only correct fix is IGU replacement: remove the failed unit, install a new correctly-specified double-pane glass unit, restore clarity and seal performance. The frame stays. The window stays. Only the glass changes.

Why IGU Seals Fail in Jericho — and Why It Happens Now

Jericho is inland Nassau County — no coastal salt air, no bay proximity. The environmental driver here is different from South Shore communities, and it is specific to the housing era. Jericho’s residential stock was developed predominantly through the 1960s and 1970s, with a significant renovation wave in the 1980s and 1990s when many original single-pane windows were replaced with double-pane IGU units. Those replacement windows are now 30–40 years old — precisely at the end of their expected IGU seal lifespan.

The IGU edge seal is a flexible adhesive system designed to hold through a rated number of thermal expansion and contraction cycles. Long Island’s inland Nassau climate delivers those cycles aggressively — summer temperatures above 90°F, winter lows below freezing, with the transition happening dozens of times per season. Every cycle expands and contracts the glass and spacer slightly, working the edge seal incrementally. After 30 years of cycling, the seal gives. The fogging that appears is not a gradual decline — it often seems sudden because the visible haze only develops after the seal has already failed and moisture has accumulated inside the unit.

This is not a Jericho-specific problem — it is a renovation-era IGU failure pattern that is appearing simultaneously across inland Nassau communities including Syosset and Woodbury, because the renovation wave hit those communities at the same time. The windows were all installed within the same decade. They are all reaching seal failure within the same decade.

IGU Replacement — What the Correct Repair Involves

Foggy window repair that works has one component: replacing the glass unit. Not cleaning. Not attempting to drill the pane and inject desiccant — a technique sometimes offered as a cheaper alternative that temporarily reduces condensation without addressing the failed seal, producing a result that refogs within months. Not replacing the entire window when the frame is structurally sound.

We removed the failed IGU from the existing frame, cleared the glazing channel, and installed a new correctly-specified double-pane unit — matched to the frame profile, correct glass thickness, correct spacer width for the frame rebate depth. The after photo shows the completed result: the same window, the same frame, the same Jericho street outside — now in complete clarity. Our van is still parked there. Everything else is exactly as it was. Only the glass is different.

Our glass replacement service carries a 10-year warranty on every IGU installation — the strongest warranty we offer on any service. If the new unit fogs within that period, we replace it at no charge. Written documentation provided at job completion.

Double-Pane Window Seal Failure — The Questions Nassau County Homeowners Ask

Do I need to replace the whole window?

In almost every case, no. The frame holding a failed IGU is structurally independent of the glass unit inside it. If the frame is sound — no rot, no warping, no hardware failure — the glass unit is replaced and the frame stays. This is consistently the right answer for Jericho’s renovation-era housing stock where the frames from 1980s and 1990s installations remain structurally sound while the glass they hold has reached seal failure.

Can fogged glass be cleaned or fixed without replacement?

No. The contamination is between the sealed panes. There is no access to those surfaces without breaking the seal — and once the seal is broken the unit is no longer an IGU. The only restoration is replacement with a new sealed unit.

How long will a new IGU last?

A correctly specified and installed IGU has a rated lifespan of 15–25 years under normal conditions. In inland Nassau County’s thermal cycling environment, correct specification means matching the spacer width to the frame rebate depth and using an edge seal system rated for the temperature differential the window faces. We verify the specification before installing — not after.

THE MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

Who does foggy window repair in Jericho, NY?
Prestige Window Works serves Jericho from our Manhasset office in Nassau County — covering Jericho, Syosset, Woodbury, and all surrounding central Nassau communities. Call 516-908-8005 for same-day foggy glass replacement near me in Nassau County.
Why are my double-pane windows fogging up in Jericho?
The IGU seal has failed — atmospheric moisture has entered the space between the panes and deposited mineral residue on the interior glass faces. In Jericho's housing stock, this is most common in the 1980s and 1990s renovation-era replacement windows that are now 30–40 years old and reaching their seal lifespan. The frame is almost always still sound. Only the glass unit needs replacing.
Can fogged double-pane glass be repaired without replacing the whole window?
Yes — IGU replacement is a glass-only procedure. We remove the failed unit from the existing frame, install a new correctly-specified double-pane unit, and the frame stays entirely in place. No new window needed in the vast majority of double-pane window repair cases in Nassau County.
Is there a cheaper fix for foggy windows than replacing the glass?
No legitimate one. Drilling and injecting desiccant is sometimes offered as an alternative — it temporarily reduces visible condensation but does not restore the seal, and the window refogs within months. The correct fix is IGU replacement. We do not offer temporary solutions that require a second visit to actually solve the problem.
How long does foggy window glass replacement take in Jericho?
Standard IGU sizes are replaced in 1–2 hours on-site. Non-standard dimensions are measured, ordered, and installed on a confirmed return date — typically 5–10 business days. We confirm the dimension category at the free estimate visit so you know what to expect before any work begins.
Do you offer a warranty on new IGU glass installations in Nassau County?
Yes — 10 years on every IGU installation, provided in writing at job completion. If the new unit fogs within the warranty period, we replace it at no charge. This applies to all window glass replacement work we perform throughout Nassau County including Jericho, Syosset, and surrounding communities.
