My window opens but won't stay up, what's wrong?
Almost certainly a failed sash balance. The balance system is what holds the sash in position against gravity. When it fails, the sash drops closed under its own weight. This is repairable in a single visit in the vast majority of cases, we replace the balance with a correctly-rated unit for your sash weight and window brand.
My casement window crank turns but the window doesn't move, can this be fixed?
Yes. This is a classic stripped operator. The internal gears have worn out so the crank rotates freely without transmitting any force to the window arm. We replace the operator unit with a correctly-matched replacement. Most casement operator replacements take under an hour.
My tilt and turn window handle is stiff and won't turn to the tilt position, is this a mechanism problem?
Usually yes. Tilt and turn multipoint systems require precise alignment between the handle cam and the locking espagnolette running around the frame. If the window has sagged slightly or the hardware has worn, the handle becomes stiff or locks in one position. We find out if it needs an adjustment or a new part. Usually it's an adjustment, which is faster and cheaper.
