This was my first time using Prestige. I noticed their truck on the road and there was enough info as to what they do printed on the truck to satisfy what was looking for. I called and they sent a very nice gentleman (owner) and we discussed my repair job and came to a reasonable price. Was told 2- 4 weeks and they were ready within that promised time. They called and we agreed to a time and day to do the job. Their men were very respectful of my house and property and did the job quickly and neatly to my 100% satisfaction. I definitely will call them again for my window and door work in the future!

Wood Door Restoration in Locust Valley, NY

When we arrived at the property for a wood door restoration in Locust Valley, NY, we immediately noticed signs of long-term water intrusion. The lower frame was deteriorating, paint had peeled off, and the threshold was soft and cracked. The constant exposure to rain, snow runoff, and splashing from the nearby steps had caused the frame to rot, particularly around the hinge side — where moisture tends to get trapped behind weatherstripping and never fully dries out. Our goal was to preserve the structure and rebuild the bottom section without replacing the entire unit.

We carefully removed the rotted door frame trim and dissected the compromised wood around the jamb and lower hinge corner. Once we exposed the full extent of the damage, it became clear that part of the sub-sill had also started to weaken. Using moisture meters and hand tools, we marked the areas to remove and began shaping custom pine and cedar replacement parts. These were milled to match the original frame size and ensure a tight, seamless integration with the existing structure.

Our team primed the replacement wood components on all sides before installation, a step often skipped in quick repairs. After setting everything with waterproof construction adhesive and stainless steel screws, we ensured the threshold and frame sat flush. The door was then rehung and tested for smooth operation. Reinforcing the lower hinge area was especially important to support long-term alignment. Gaps were filled with flexible caulk, and the repaired area was left ready for a fresh coat of exterior paint.

This type of rot is common in wooden exterior doors, especially when they lack adequate flashing, sit flush with concrete steps, or suffer from failed caulking. In Locust Valley, older homes frequently have beautiful solid-core wood doors — but those doors often come with long-forgotten frame issues. We always advise homeowners to check the lower corners of their doors regularly for paint bubbling, softness, or swelling. These are early warning signs that rot has set in and a restoration is needed.

At Prestige Window Works, we specialize in wood door repair in Locust Valley, NY, tackling everything from rotted door frames and warped thresholds to misaligned hinges and damaged strike plates. Our mission is to save and restore — not replace — whenever structurally possible. Every repair is done with long-term performance in mind, using exterior-grade materials, moisture control techniques, and historically accurate craftsmanship.

If your exterior door is sticking, rotting at the base, or showing signs of wear, don’t wait for the damage to spread. Contact Prestige Window Works today. We’re proud to offer wood door repairs, rot restoration, door jamb rebuilds, and threshold replacements across Locust Valley and surrounding areas. Let us restore your entrance to the condition it deserves — strong, safe, and built to last.
